This was a very good story. I was hooked on the very first page. I could have easily read this book in one setting if life hadn't kept interrupting my reading, but it was well worth the wait!
I was very happy with Nick's character. Having a woman protecting him didn't take anything away from his being the hero. I also liked that he referred to his niece and nephew as his kids. There was something intimate about that.
Though I guessed one of the informants from the very beginning of the story, how everything played out was a bit shocking. I found the whole "showdown" very sad. All the characters had very clear personalities and the author did great in explaining how each person in the story operated. I liked all the action, and the romance was believable - though I think the marriage proposal should have waited several months. But hey, that's what romances are made of...
Oh, as I was reading this book, I suspected that one of the characters had his own story - and he does! While reading reviews of another book, I learned that this and the next book, "Missing," are related to the "High Stakes" books.
