Charismatic, charming, handsome and athletic, Kendrick is an armed, uniformed officer of the law. He is also a deranged psychotic, a man who obeys the wicked commands of a sinister voice, which only he can hear. Though his psyche is deeply flawed, his dark passenger silently compensates by providing uncanny insight that helps him perpetrate his crimes and escape detection afterwards. At times, the demonic entity seems to take physical form, and Kendrick soon begins to struggle with the difference between fantasy and reality. When Kendrick makes a patrol on the nightshift, people die violently and mysteriously, and his investigations too often produce unexpected corpses and innocent suspects irrevocably implicated by fabricated evidence. Despite the rising body count, Kendrick passes through it all oddly protected and above suspicion, and he believes a demonic entity empowers him to pursue the whimsies of his bloodlust without consequence. Whatever the cause, he has enjoyed an incongruous run of luck, and it seems only a fatal mistake can hang him.
