I finished this book off this morning after waking up way too early. Reading sometimes puts me back to sleep...but no so for this book! It was GREAT from page 1 to page 249!
Nick thought he had a nice, comfortable life. He was a fire fighter with nice hours - 24 on, 48 off; and he volunteered at the homeless shelter a couple days a week. Okay, no big deal! Then a woman named Caitlin breezed into his life, and his life turned upside down, inside out and then some!
Love is deeper than blood, as proven in this case. This knight in shining armor was there for the premie baby when her mother couldn't be. I'm still wondering how he got away with fathering this baby! An almost-complete stranger, he is mistaken as the baby's father when Caitlin, who thought she was dying, named him as such before she slipped into a coma. Then when she wakes up, she finds that her daughter has a new name, a father who knows her better than her own flesh and blood, and a will-power to live.
Except Caitlin has a secret - she can't read and she's way too ashamed to tell anybody this secret, especially Mick...
And that's really the only problem I have with this book - that she was so prideful she couldn't tell anybody she couldn't read...the thought that a loving mother would put her child's life in jeopardy by some stupid ploy with the cab driver was beyond my comprehension...For the child's sake, she WOULD have asked the pharmacy or someone to make SURE she could tell the difference...But then not being in that situation, maybe I'm wrong...it just seemed she was way too hazardous with her child...too hazardous for my comfort!
This was a sweet story and a great read. The three of them made a great family. And I absolutely LOVED Mick's mother! She was precious and made a great grandma and mother-in-law I"m sure! That baby was never wanting in anything with her and her daddy around!!!
