The Bonds of Matrimony
Hero needed a husband and though Benedict Carmichael would fit the bill admirably. Accordingly, she married him.

But then her tidy plans for their future life together began to go awry and the problems started.

Mills & Boon edition

Hero had spent all her young life in Africa, but her dream was eventually to live in England. For this, though, she would have to be married to an Englishman--and she thought Benedict Carmichael would fit the bill admirably. Benedict in his turn was prepared to do a deal as he wanted some land in Africa with which Hero could provide him! And so they got married. But Hero at least did not get what she wanted out of the situation, because she hadn't expected to fall in love with her husband--who clearly wasn't interested in her. But shouldn't Hero just settle for what she had got?
