Great Lake Legends
Rebecca Lynn Baxter's parents recently died when their boat exploded. It's been declared an accident, but Rebecca doesn't think so...So she travels back to her hometown - and the mansion she lived in until the age of ten - and poses as a research assistant for her cousin's widow so she can get the answers.surrounding her parents death.
The suspense was good. I thought I knew who was behind the crime, and I got one person right, but not for the right reason. This book had enough suspense and action in it to keep it interesting. I enjoyed the near-deaths and action very much, though I did find myself questioning why the killer did what they did a couple times. I think some things were done purely for dramatic effect. (Like for instance...SPOILER...untying a person's hands before dumping them int he water to drown...)
Blah! These two couldn't trust each other to save their lives...literally! Either Becca thought Max killed his wife and her parents or he thought she was after her grandmother's money! They declare their love for one another then suddenly think the other person is this really bad person and gets full of hatred toward them. I'm sorry, but this does NOT make good romance! The last thing I want to see is a couple who continually accuse each other of doing harmless, sinful things to suddenly become engaged just because a little girl wants a mommy! I found myself liking them as a couple a couple times, but I just cannot condone the actions and say it's okay for them to marry...no way, no how...not until they learn how to trust each other...
