What if God wasn't a moral being? What if God just creates life, and guides life, and propagates life? What if souls are the lifeblood of the system, eternally circulating? And what if life is tied to a planet like a soul is tied to a body? What if life starts small on a planet, like a baby, and the souls are few and simple. What if life evolves on a planet, driven by a dispassionate God who selects, and suggests, and guides? What if souls grow in number and sophistication - eternal and eternally replicating - as life grows on a planet? What if life is sometimes threatened and the system needs to protect itself? Like in our bodies, which have white blood cells that battle infection? What if life's white blood cells are souls with a job? Meet Alex, one of life's white blood cells.
Despite trying valiantly, neither science nor religion has ever been able to answer the ultimate question: Why Life? Which is why Alex, a man whose life has slipped into a beer-y rut, is feeling all at sea and having trouble with the nature of reality. He feels he needs some guidance - any guidance - because he's woken up in a place he knows is called the Dreamscape, but he doesn't know how he knows. He just knows. He also knows, but because someone told him this time, that humanity is in big trouble unless he can protect the Well of Souls from the invading daemons.
