In 1832 three men were the heart and soul of a wooden outpost built along the Arkansas River. From the beginning, William Bent, Ceran St. Vrain, and Kit Carson knew they would have to defend their fort with their lives--against storms, Indian marauders, disease and a region erupting in war.
