When Reed Adair died, a foolish waste of a foolish life, he left his wife and children penniless and facing a future suddenly bleak and terrifying. Fern could think of no place to turn…and then came an invitation from Reed's estranged mother, inviting the remnants of her son's family to return to the Chateau Chardonnay and the ancient vineyards that had belonged to the Adairs for many generations. The woman was still bitter at losing her son, though it had happened long before Fern cam to know him, but Fern welcomed the invitation. At first she thought that the old wounds between mother and son could be healed, but the hatreds between the family were empty of love for a long time and there was no place else for her to go. Now something began to stalk the grounds of the ancient vineyards, striking out at the memory of Reed Adair and those who bore his name!
