A frigid, gray winter in Berlin: On the night after the matriarch of a small group of close friends is found mysteriously dead in a river, five large photographic artworks created by one of the group are stolen from a glitzy gallery. Death and theft trigger searches and discoveries, personal and historical, by each of the once-glamorous but now aging friends.
