Her parents were killed when the Germans invaded France, leaving her all alone to care for a sickly aristocrat. As she grew into young womanhood, she found purpose in helping the French Resistance. She lives under constant threat of disappearing in the dark of night, never to be seen again, like so many others during the Nazi occupation.
