Charles plans to race the horses once again to test their stamina against a better class of horses. Charles hires Eric Stafford, and he proves vital to the breeding and production of quality horses. Progress continues in Vallejo, so the family returns to Philadelphia, and Charles helps Darren solve the problem of rail construction jobs. Bernard is not doing well with the Philadelphia Inn and asks Charles for advice. Charles helps Bernard and his life drastically changes. Charles takes the family out to eat in San Francisco at a better restaurant, and is disappointed with the food, and the service. Charles decides San Francisco needs a first class hotel and a marvelous restaurant. He finds the perfect location, but is concerned with the inherent built in problems with the land. Ghost and Cassandra's relationship expands to the point that Cassandra's mother files a warrant for Ghost's arrest and Ghost is forced to stand trial.
