This collection presents four short stories by Max Afford, two of which feature the author's regular sleuth Jeffery Blackburn. ‘Poison Can Be Puzzling', ‘The Vanishing Trick' and ‘The Happy Couple' were originally published in Australian periodicals in the 1940s, and appear to be the only published short crime fiction tales by Afford. ‘The Gland Men Of The Island' appears to be Afford's sole foray into science-fiction; the story first appeared in WONDER STORIES in 1931.
