Truth in Ash relates several confessions, by characters that impacted the life of Kristian Wolff, son of Joseph and Mary, husband to Magda. Peter, Mark, John and Luke relate his life as they knew it, just as Christ's Apostles would have done. To complete the picture, Paul his wizened lawyer defends his story and convinces the judge and jury of the truth. Telling it as known and sometimes as they wanted it known, we are left unsure how much crime balanced against compassion. We find truth distorted by flawed witness, by politics associated with the case and a possibly selective memory of the defendant, we will never know the real truth. Complicity, both of Kristian and his church proves hard to defend, particularly as most evidence floated as ash up the camp chimneys. Paul Richard Sully questions the doubtful role played by the Catholic church in the conflict.
