BAYONETS FLASHED
Then his men were up with him, whooping and roaring in like devils.
He saw Halliwell wield a tomahawk and sink its blade into the skull of a black-moustached soldier. Joachim smashed his cutlass down and withdrew the reeking blade. Ferris was spitting mad, driving the panicky soldiers back, their bayonets clanking and clanging against the boarding pike. Barnabas heaved himself up with a Frenchman under each arm and banged their heads together. He always seemed to lose his cutlass.
