A frightened young girl must stop a killer from killing again...
Jackie Teraine, invited to the luxurious Anteris home, discovers that her hosts are living on the brink of terror. Widowed Julie Anteris is certain that her stepson Mark is in danger, but she doesn't know why, or from whom. En route home to claim his inheritance, he had met with a mysterious accident -- and the only witness to it was murdered. Now Mark, a strange, silent young man, had a “guest” whom he seems to fear.
It is soon obvious to Jackie that someone is indeed trying to kill Mark. Could it be Julie herself? Or Suzie, her lonely, wild young daughter who is unreasonably hostile to Mark? Or Mark's unwelcome guest?
Suddenly Jackie finds that she herself must prevent a murder without a motive, in a family at the mercy of a killer…
There was silence.
So that the sound of footsteps over her head was as audible as though it were in the next room. Old Mrs. Anteris? Possible, but not probable. Jackie crept up the stairs…to a landing she had never seen before. It was short and narrow with three closed doors… There was a flash of light showing under the door opposite her. There was somebody there!
She turned…had gone down two steps when she heard the boards of the stairway creak below her.
Somebody was in the room above her and somebody else was coming up the stairs towards her. She fought the panic that thumped at her heart. She must keep her back pressed against the wall and be quiet.
Everything was so quiet…so unnaturally quiet under the red moon. A red moon, a killer's moon…
