THE WADDODLES OF HOLLOW LAKE:
CALAMITY ON EAST BAY
The Waddodles slowly healed following the death of Harriet's husband, Theodore, the father of her twin boys Ted and Fred and triplet girls Addie, Bitzi and Cissy. The newborn triplets have grown and developed enough to take part in most family activities, winning the hearts of Harriet's friends, especially The Newspapers … white-tailed doe Clara and Zoe and her neighbors sweet Scitter and her nere-do-well husband Percy Chipmunk.
East Bay was enjoying a long, peaceful interlude until The Waddodle's enemies; hermit Old Mr. Grump recovered from his ax wound and released his bloodthirsty hounds from their chains and were back on the warpath and the wily red fox, Ruffin Twins, had fully recovered from a vicious attack by bumble bees and again pursuing The Waddodles with a vengeance.
Also, horrifying rumors began circulating concerning a brutal crazed beast, known as Mr. You-Know-Who, who was creating havoc throughout the woodland, ripping apart grouse nests, repeatedly tearing apart Billy Buck Beaver's dam, terrorizing all wildlife. Though many heard The Beast's agonizing roar and restless thrashing, no one had gotten close enough to know what kind of animal he actually was … until …
One rare quiet evening Harriet dared venture into The Cedar Swamp to fish and encountered the crazed beast, nearly losing her life. She recognized Mr. You-Know-Who as the notorious Big Casey and knew instantly she must move her family to safety. But where? And how? Her triplets were too young to climb to safety or feed themselves yet.
The doe, Clara and Zoe, helped her house hunt and located a home on West Shore, on the opposite shore of Hollow Lake.
Although far away, Harriet ventured to check it and agreed the two-story hollow in a massive sturdy oak, near her precious lake and brook was the perfect home to relocate her family. Journeying home, she took a wrong fork in the path, and when enemies attacked, nearly lost her life.
When Harriet returned home, she discovered her children shaken due to Freddie's harrowing encounter with Old Mr. Grump. After her experience near the Grassy Meadow and Freddie 's threatening episode in Grump Territory, she knew they had to escape … at dawn.
The children rebelled, not wanting to leave their den and dear neighbor Scitter. To convince them Harriet had to reveal painful secrets she had wanted to keep to herself. Trusting in Harriet's wisdom, the children finally conceded … all except Freddie.
At dawn, after shedding many tears, the family pays one last visit to Scitter, who is bedridden with a mysterious illness, causing Harriet much guilt, as Scitter was always there for her crisis's and here she was leaving when Scitter was so ill. She offered to postpone her move but Scitter wouldn't hear of it and insisted it was more important Harriet get her family settled in a safe location.
Harriet lead her children on one final walk through the den, to visit Theodore's grave, and say their final goodbye to East Bay before beginning their long perilous journey to West Shore and safer territory, ready to begin a new life, trusting they will not encounter Big Casey along the way.
