One thing the farming village of Stonely didn't want, was illuminating - in any sense of the word. Having spent some 600 or so years in the dark recesses of anonymity, being thrust into the limelight and touched by the tentacles of technology would be as welcome as a wet fart in tight rubber underwear. The impending introduction of mains electricity, something which they had so far managed perfectly well without, would put the village firmly on the map, a fate it had until now successfully avoided. Modernity of the 1950s was on its doorstep and scraping cow dung off its boots. It also hid a couple of rather awkward secrets. Following on from ‘An English Custom' we return to the village of Stonely in the early 1950s, home of the Duke, his bastard half brother and their equally illegitimate son Timothy. Dust had settled and thickened on the history books but someone had opened a new bottle of Quink and was already squeezing the bladder of their fountain pen. Robert ‘Bob' Millwood would leave a bigger man but at a cost. Clifford as always turned a quick profit at the Inn whilst Shirley allowed her charms to lead their natural way forward. Herman was about to expose himself and he wouldn't be the first that week.
