The Twilight Box — Troon Harrison

Young Ambro searches for his lost family, possibly members of the arrogant ruling class of Terre, the Kiffa-walkers. His key to acceptance is to recapture the glorious horses of the Wind-wanderers, stolen from them by Ambro's Kiffa-walker patron and now exploited by him.Noleena is the princess of the Wind-wanderers, formerly free desert people now subjugated and cruelly enslaved by the Kiffa-walkers. Although she has lived hidden for much of her young life in the city of Safala in an abandoned Wind-walker temple, she must now find the courage to free her people from oppression and slavery. Despite their hatred and fear of one another, Ambro, forced to acknowledge that he too may be enslaved, and Noleena must join in searching the hard and beautiful land for the Twilight Box, whose magic can defeat the sorcery that has caused the enmity between the Kiffa-walkers and Wind-wanderers. In a great magical battle, Noleena, with the aid of the forces of nature that the Twilight Box contains, defeats the evil sorceress who has nearly destroyed the land.
