A member of the famous Titian research committee has been found stabbed to death in a Venetian public garden, and Rome's Art Theft Squad sends Flavia di Stefano to help the local carabinieri. They think it is a simple case of mugging, but quarreling within the committee makes everyone a suspect to Flavia. When a web of clues begins to emerge in a most confusing manner, she calls on the services of art historian Jonathan Argyll.
