This run-of-the-mill Western set in Colorado circa 1880 stars Charlie ``Poker'' Pearse, a handsome, charming, intelligent, and honest gambler fast with guns and his fists. Pearse takes on the job of escorting Mary Lou Reilly, who is traveling from Deadwood to Julesburg with a satchel of $25,000 in cash for her fiance, ``Colonel'' Reynolds. In hot pursuit of the money are the vicious killer Ellen Murphy, who poses as Reilly, and her equally vicious companion, Harris. The action becomes fast, violent, and bloody as Pearse, rescue bound, follows a trail of torture and murder. Dedicated Western buffs may find this gory tale entertaining, but the writing is flat and the characters without substance.-- Sister Avila, Acad. of the Holy Angels, Minneapolis
