Not trusting the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadores and forewarned by his nephew about a theft in one of the outlying villages a high Aztec priest takes it upon himself to steal away with the Aztecs most Holy of Holies; THE SUN STONE! Travelling north by northwest via several secret roads until he reached their most powerful allies, the APACHES. From there the Apaches hid the sacred object until several years later when a Spanish mining expedition discovered it by accident. But, the monk and soldiers developing a gold and silver mine were killed in their sleep. One lone Blue Mountain Pueblo servant who had tried to make life as best as he could for the enslaved Indians life was spared. As a grandfather many years later he spent every winter evening telling stories of when he was a slave with the Spanish. Or the knowledge of Sun Stone would have vanished forever. As history progressed at its own pace, mountain men wandering into New Mexico and Arizona started hearing the legend of the Spanish Nugget with a wide range of truth. Don't forget mountain men weren't exactly known for sticking to the absolute truth. Probably ten percent of the tales they told were truthful. But there was something about the legend of the SPANISH GOLD NUGGET that rang with the truth. And that tiny grain of truth that reached only a very few ears kept the legend alive although the existence of such a nugget didn't seem possible it made for happy speculation around the fireplace on raw winter nights. The legend made its way back east through the drovers and freight handlers as they brought home more than their wagon loads of goods.
