In rural Tennessee four boys are just having some fun shooting at deer signs along a county highway. Down the road a man gets hit in the head and dies near his mailbox. The victim had been having an affair with a local woman and her husband is the first one the sheriff questions. The boys see the dead man and believe that one of them has fired the fatal shot. That belief creates a Hodge-podge of events that leave the tiny community of Green Village, Tennessee reeling. The sheriff just wants to retire and move to Florida.
