For most of his life, prepper Mike Dunham had been content to live alone in his isolated cabin in the woods. That all changed three years ago when a developer bought a large chunk of land next to his property, tore down the forest, and began to build a neighborhood. Resentful of the intrusion, Mike has no interest in being neighborly with the newcomers. Sheeple, as he calls them, are naive, careless, and untrustworthy. When a deadly influenza virus spreads throughout Asia and shows no signs of slowing, Mike decides it's time to bug out before the virus can reach the United States. He loads up his truck and heads out, ready to wait out the apocalypse in a remote national forest. Disaster strikes, forcing a change of plans. Mike will need to adapt and overcome in order to survive. Will he be up to the task?

Jen Pruitt just finished her third year of medical school, and she has decided it will be her last. Since she was a child Jen has struggled with her obsessive compulsive disorder. With the help of medication she has been able to keep her compulsions in check. Lately, though, the medicine has proved increasingly ineffective. For Jen, medical school opened a Pandora's box of knowledge. She has become acutely aware of the thousands of diseases and pathogens lurking in the wild, just waiting to infect a human host. When the viral outbreak strikes and her parents are on vacation, she is left alone, ill equipped to deal with her issues. Her neighbors need her help, but Jen cannot bring herself to assist them. Can she find the strength to move past her fears?
