Can a seamstress turned governess find love in California?

Lydia Newman works hard as a seamstress for her life in New York. She does all she can to supply her boss, Mrs. Mills, with the best product possible. However, at twenty-four years old, Lydia has begun to wish for more in life, namely a husband.

When Mrs. Mills sees an advertisement in a local paper for a governess position out in California, she suggests that Lydia apply for the job. If she plays her cards right, maybe Lydia can find a husband in her new employer. After Lydia and her potential employer, John Connelly, exchange numerous letters, she decides to make the move out west despite the fact that she has no experience teaching or caring for children.

John, a recent widower and the father of two twin boys, has plans of his own, for he wishes to someday build his own ranch. Until he can achieve this dream, he must endure the harsh treatment of his boss, Terrance Hartley. He hopes that his new governess will be able to take care of his sons in ways his demanding work prevents him from doing. What he doesn't know is that Lydia has no idea what she's doing.

Will Lydia be able to rise to the task of caring for two children? Will John be able to build his own ranch and escape the clutches of Terrance Hartley?
Finally, will a romance blossom between Lydia and John, or will her lies sever all hope of a relationship?
