The Scrivener's Tale, sequel to Angus Brownfield's Pool of Tears, finds the brightest of Stedwell Institutes' strain of talking mice, Dorothy Mustt, sold into captivity by her former love. Burned once from trusting a human, Dorothy nonetheless grows to trust Gavin MacDonald, the man hired to ghost write her memoir. Little does she know that the memoir is merely a guise for learning the location of her fellow genetically enhanced mice so they can be procured for CIA use. Gavin soon becomes disgusted with these nefarious plans and schemes to free Dorothy and reunite her with her family. But Dorothy doesn't know where they are and is afraid of the CIA finding them if she goes looking. Worst of all, her clan hates her for betraying them to a human. Can Gavin persuade her to escape? Can he possibly elude the CIA? Luckily, he's in the company of a mouse who can outthink him before breakfast.
