The Origins of an Empire — Cour M

There have been stories about witches and wizards, and others of vampire love stories... this tale follows both! 'Indeed, how does a story begin? It would serve to be a better individual than I who could begin it properly, but there was no one. There is only me. Therefore, good day Reader, I am Valda Darcy, this is my tale... and I was born to the world of the Watchers. I was born a Witch.' The year is 2678 A.D. and magic fills the air -- literally. Over two hundred years ago, magic in the earth that had been dormant for so long had awoken and everyone found themselves able to wield and possess magic. Thus by 2678, Valda Darcy lives in the time of the witches and wizards, in York, a city that rests on a cloud. Over time, earth had become too hostile to live on, so the wizarding world established a whole empire in the atmosphere. Valda Darcy, a recent graduate of Grendullen School of Watchers and Casters, is undergoing what is normal for a girl who is becoming a woman who must enter the world. She must consider the innocent choices of what to do after graduation, what sort of career in the magical world she would want, or at least what is her identity and role amongst her peers. However all of these common choices come to a halt when an old pestilence, called the Black Root, infects the clouds and causes an outbreak. With the disease being incurable, everything looks bleak, especially when her uncle Nolan is infected. Yet Valda realizes that the cure can only be found in one place, the earth, thus leading her to a dangerous ultimatum: should she remain and risk her uncle dying, or should she escape down to earth, risk her life over and over in hopes of finding the solution?
