The Oregon Rifles — D.B. Newton

Young Barney Stansel had run away from home to join the Oregon Rifles - volunteer soldiers pitted against thousands of marauding Indians terrorizing the Northwest Territories. After an Indian raid that nearly wiped out his entire company, Barney, badly wounded, was left for dead. Rescued by the only other survivor, he had to make a bitter choice. The man who saved him was a deserter, and to stick with him meant being branded with the same iron.
