The Mountain Massacres
From Publishers Weekly

Young, likable lawyer Tod Hanson, a musician at heart who stutters only around his famous father and boss, trial attorney Bomber Hanson, narrates this sketchy series debut. Bomber agrees to defend Bart O'Neil, hippie-mountain man accused of killing the neighbor who shot his dogs. In his role as investigator, skeptical Tod visits the central California coastal mountain community where the murder occurred. In addition to an odd assortment of hippies who seem all to be related by marriage and divorces, he meets their new neighbor, who is rich enough to build an expensive home behind an electronic gate, and uncovers a long-standing feud over rights to a well. Tod's probing paints a grim picture of Bart's prospects, although Bomber seems pleased with his son's progress. Sensitive and amusing father-son interplay is stronger than Champion's thin plot, wrapped up here in a final courtroom scene.

From Kirkus Reviews

A grudge, a murder, an investigation, a trial, a surprise ending, all in 161 pages? Yes, indeed. An agreeably goofy charm in this first of the Bomber Hanson series.

From the Publisher

Mysterious deaths in the mountains prompt Bart O'Neil to visit Bomber Hanson, the world-famous attorney who resides in a California seaside town.

In this American courtroom drama Bomber's son and investigator, Tod, explores the perplexing details of a murder charge against Bart, only to encounter other suspects: the stunning widow, an off-beat teenager, the eyewitness hippie and her handsome ex-husband, and the wealthy, standoffish millionaire and his benign wife -- all who call the secluded mountains above the sea their home. Bart O'Neil, the unsophisticated accused murderer, maintains his innocence throughout, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

The courtroom crackles with authentic excitement as the brilliant, sometimes ruthless Bomber and his amiable but quirky son discover the unexpected truth in this riveting, edge-of-your seat legal suspense drama, the first in the acclaimed series.
