Haley awakened and believed today was going to be like every other day. She would play and do the chores that were given by her mother for her to do that day. But today was going to be different. While playing with her dog, Daisy, she had fallen and hit her head on a rock. She didn't mind the fact that she had hurt herself, but she didn't want her mommy to know. Mommy was hard on her and did not approve of Daisy, and now supper was going to be late. It was at the supper table Haley realized that something strange had happened to her and it had to be a result of the bang to her head. She looked at her mom to say something and she could actually see what her mom was thinking. Being a child and not understanding what was going on, she answered what question her mother was about to ask. This was the beginning of Haley's “gift.” She was only a child, and she had been given the ability to see into someone's mind just by looking into their eyes. What she would do with this “gift” is the story that rests between the pages of this novel.
