Tarin has fled to the desert - so guess where Corin's off to? But both Caswallon's right hand man, the sinister Rael (recently thwarted in his own castle and mad for vengeance) and Corin's old comrade and now bitter foe, the hard-nosed Hagan, are both determined to gut him alive. Worse, his love interest with Ariane takes a weird twist with the arrival of her dreamy beautiful cousin, Shallan of Morwella.

Corin's road takes him south on Tarin's fading trail through enemy lands to the Crystal Mountains, the rumored domain of the Smith God Croagon - the only being with skill enough to re-forge the crown. Meanwhile back in her own country, Ariane faces a new threat in the form of Caswallon's army -- now mustering on her northern borders.
Outnumbered and outplayed, the queen and her stalwarts struggle to survive. Only with the crown re-forged and a new High King can the Four Kingdoms unite to overthrow the Usurper, Caswallon. That hope focuses on Corin an Fol, but things are not looking good for our boy, as deep beneath the mountains lies the biggest trap of all!
