It is the week before Christmas, and the weather is chilly. Sherlock Holmes has received a small brown-paper package by the morning post, and wonders what it can be. “Why do you not open it and see?” suggests the ever-practical Dr Watson. But Holmes prefers to draw all the inferences he can from the packaging before seeing what is inside. When he does at length open it, however, the mystery is not solved, but becomes yet more puzzling, and the abrupt arrival of a well-dressed lady complicates things further. Holmes decides to go off in disguise to a fashionable address in the West End, to try to get to the bottom of the matter. This is the 5th story from The Art of Sherlock Holmes project - the artwork is by David Teal.
