When Lydia, newly widowed with an emotionally disturbed son and a daughter in a doomed affair with an older man, inherited a crumbling farm, it seemed the last straw. Her husband had left her with very little money, forcing her to give up her lovely home in London to try to exist on a lonely moor in the wilds of Yorkshire. Her only hope was a surly neighbor, Matt Harper, and his unmarried sister with a mysterious past.

To complicate matters, Lydia's daughter, Paula, refused to leave London, and her son David was as bad tempered as the neighbors. It was just too much for Lydia to cope with. There wasn't even electricity in the decrepit old farmhouse. And then when daughter Paula finally decided to join them, everything grew worse.
