With nothing to hold her in America, Paula jumped at the chance to see exotic Morocco, exhilarated that a little-known uncle bequeathed his estate to her. But her inheritance was the immense, decaying palace of Sultan Abdallah III--which she couldn't claim without adhering to Moroccan law--and the custom of bribery.
Abdou Daoud, her lawyer, and Mike, the gregarious tour leader, seemed eager to help--but their offers strangely never materalized. Only Warren, a mild-mannered man who'd guided her though Tangier, and Gerald, a lively English tourist, actively aided her.
