The Homecoming
After Kyle Brubaker returned from his day-long visit to Dodge City, Kansas in 1875 he became depressed. His new-found friend, 15-year old Clint Wainright, a boy alone in the danger-filled era of America's old west, was once again alone. Worse, for Kyle, he felt he had abandoned the boy and Clint would never know the real reason why Kyle had disappeared. Kyle and his best friend, 14-year old Hilly Northrup, had vowed their knowledge of what the hairy glifics could do had to remain secret.

The weight of what Kyle knew he had done bore down so heavily he decided he needed to return to Dodge City and, if nothing else, explain to Clint the circumstances of how they had met and why Kyle couldn't stay. If he could. What he might tell Clint about time travel could, after all, be impossible for someone else to comprehend. Especially for someone who didn't even know what a zipper was.

Hilly is not in favor of Kyle's proposed trip back. She believes what occurred 150 years ago is better left alone.

Kyle disagrees and decides a quick trip there and back will be all it takes to resolve the problems he has been dealing with.

With precise timing and selection of the location where he had last seen Clint, Kyle manages to reappear before Clint would have discovered Kyle was gone. The intent, if Kyle can pull it off, is to prevent any memory of Kyle's departure before the factâ€"before Clint had even created the memory.

All of that turned out to be the easy part. What Kyle suggests next is something he doesn't even know might work. Could it kill his friend? Kyle knows he can move from one century to the next, but what could happen if he were to pull someone out of their life and move them 150 plus years into the future? If Clint were to return to the 21st-century with Kyle, the boy would have the chance for a home, a family, and opportunities that, right then, did not exist for him.

And so begins an odyssey for Clint that will stay with him for the rest of his life, regardless of what century he lives in. Where he ends up though, becomes more than the 15-year old could ever have imagined. And resolving the overwhelming influx of information and differences of eras, Clint begins to have doubts as to where he really belongs.

For Kyle and Hilly, they discover that friendships can last lifetimes. What was once, for Kyle, nothing more than a simple trip to explore the American West, turns into a saga of adventure, plans, laughter, sadness, and of twists and turns he never would have imagined.

This sequel to Kyle Brubaker and the hairy glificsâ€"Dodge City completes the story of Kyle, Hilly and Clint Wainright, a 15-year old boy from 1875 who discovers the grass can be green on both sides of the fence.
