Matilda's destiny sent her down an arduous path. She led the last successful land invasion of England in A.D. 1139 to wrench the throne from Stephen, the lover who betrayed her. Aided by her illegitimate halfbrother, Robert of Gloucester and scores of nobility, Empress Matilda gained control of the western half of England.
The author, Dr. Haley Elizabeth Garwood, researched the story of The Forgotten Queen at the Library of Congress, researched obscure documents, and had materials imported from England in order to write a factual and entertaining novel. Her goal is to dust off the forgotten women in history. This is the first novel in Dr. Garwood's Warrior Queen Series.
