Robert Bloch (b. 1917) began his writing career as a teenager in 1935. While his early work was deeply influenced by the style and concepts of his mentor, H.P. Lovecraft, it did not take him very long to develop his own literary voice. Prolific and versatile, he expanded from horror to science fiction and suspense, from short stories and novels to script writing for radio, television, and cinema. Along the way he has won nearly every award and honor the field has to bestow.

"The Early Fears' brings together for the first time all of the stories from his first two short stories collections, both long out-of-print, plus three previously uncollected stories - 39 stories in all. Included are such classics as 'Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper,' 'Enoch,' 'The Opener of the Way,' and the Hugo Award winning 'That Hell-Bound Train.'
