Thousands of years ago a group of humans, for their own benefit, had entered into an agreement.Nobody alive in the 21st century knew anything about this, but they soon did when a familiar figure came out of the heavens to demand repayment of the debt. The debt was due and payable in human lives, but how to decide who would be given up to be enslaved for an eternity.
This is a science fiction short story of approx. 3,500 words.
