Maggie Barclay had never been close to her parents, so when, after three years in Europe, she heard they had both died, she received the news with mixed feelings.

Determined to seek out her inheritance, she set out for the family home, in company with distant cousin Hazel. But events seemed to be conspiring to prevent her return, and Hazel's occult premonitions did nothing to increase Maggie's self-confidence. It was only after they reached the Barclay place that Maggie began to realize that it was not Hazel's ghosts she was up against, but something far more sinister. For a long time, she could not be sure of even her closet, dearest friends.
