Miriam Raber and her family decide to move to Pennsylvania seeking better opportunities. They hail from Ohio and hope for a better life and a more open and accepting environment for their relatively liberal beliefs. But, they find themselves in an even worse situation when they end up in a community predominantly occupied by the Old Amish. To their surprise, they are ridiculed and shunned because of their different views on Amish beliefs.
Levi King, the youngest son of the neighboring King family, is immediately drawn to the beautiful Miriam. His family though seems to have the greatest prejudice against the New Amish. His father turns away his new neighbors when they try to extend a hand of friendship and trust.
The Rabers are baffled by his attitude and thus decide to distance themselves from the family as well. Things further complicate themselves as Levi gradually falls in love with Miriam. The two star crossed lovers meet in secret, hoping and waiting for the day that the relationship between their two families gets better so that they may be together.
Their hope for a peaceful solution is in vain when it is discovered the Kings are using the Rabers' land to graze their herd. The Rabers want the family off their land at once.
Levi and Miriam feel lost and despondent as to how their relationship could ever work out. Will their differences keep them apart or will Gott help them reconcile to find true lasting love?
