Chicago's temperature was dropping, but things were heating up tier Jimmy Flannery, precinct captain of the 27th ward. Baby, the city's most popular gorilla, was out in the cold because the zoo's boiler went kaput -- and so would the mayor's future if Baby didn't
find a new home fast.

That's where fighting Irish Jimmy Flannery came in -- with the idea of boarding Baby in the Paradise Baths, a social hot spot for Chicago's gays. But when two customers turned up beaten to death in the gorilla's steam room, everyone figured it was a case of Baby going bananas. But not Jimmy.
