The radio station in the Colorado mountains was really the plaything of wealthy old Peter Custer, who could afford to wage even a losing fight to “preserve sanity in this world” by sponsoring cultural programs. And “Custer's Last Stand,” as it was known, was a heaven-sent opportunity for Grace Morse to be an announcer, a program director and a station manager, and to set aside a nest egg against the time Dr. George Baker would be able to establish a paying practice and marry her.

Then Grace created a new program which made her something of a television idol and the Sweetheart of the Air -- and the doctor, worried that his claim was not staked down, decided that she should retire. His worries were not lessened by the arrival of a prosperous come down the hills to make his radio friend is bride. And Grace had to decide which was the voice of love and which the voice of male pride.
