Karen Lee Jones began writing every day from inspiration as a child in order to escape rural poverty in Virginia. In her book, Stories from the Television Show: Imagination Way, she uses her childhood experiences of living on a farm to create characters such as Duke the Dog, Ms. Goozay, Judge Bacon, and others who are featured in her stories.

In 1978, she had her first short children's story published by the Kuntu Writer's Workshop at the University of Pittsburgh's Africana Studies Department. Currently, she is a community producer at PCTV-Channel 21 and has a storytelling show called Imagination Way. Imagination Way has been appearing on this station for approximately ten years. It is a children's educational program geared towards promoting literacy for young children and their parents.

In 1996, Imagination Way received an EXCEL award for the Best Children's Programming from Shane's Corner Productions and PCTV-Channel 21. In addition, Imagination Way has appeared in an article by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Newspaper, which features the author and what inspired her to write children's stories.
