Statue of Death
Abby Tuttle Tingle, 24-year-old Lauren Tingle's beloved grandmother, has vanished from her fishing boat along the treacherous Pacific Ocean's Northern California coastline. Lauren, the sole heir to Abby's estate, returns to the lighthouse complex, her home for every summer that she can remember, to find that the local sheriff is refusing to further investigate Abby's case believing it to be a simple accidental drowning. Lauren knows that Abby is an expert boatwoman and angrily refutes the sheriff's findings to no avail. She defies the sheriff's attempt to stop her from further investigation. With urgency, a heavy heart, and the undeniable terror of not knowing what has befallen her grandmother, Lauren embarks on a complex journey of solving the mystery surrounding Abby's disappearance. Within days Lauren finds herself delving into the hidden political world of Chapel Harbor, a town trapped within the century-old oppressive grip of the descendants of its powerful founding families, who she thinks are deliberately hiding the secrets to her loss. She is in a battle against un-named and unseen forces, while those whom she believes have harmed her grandmother are free to walk in the clear view of sunlight, obstructing her efforts, and delivering their wrath upon her when they fail.
