Someone had a talent for murder...
At loose ends after the death of her poet father, young Elizabeth Wainwright left her native Boston and drove across the continent to join a small, hand-picked group of young people in an isolated, West Coast commune. They were artists all -- writers, painters, sculptors -- living under the roof of Miranda Field, a strange woman with a fragile soul in a gross body. All of the residents welcomed Elizabeth warmly -- especially Barnaby, attractive and enigmatic, with a dark side to his talent, who painted his subjects with the violence and evil he saw behind their smiles and in their eyes.
