Stamp Twice for Murder — Betty Cavanna

The beautiful hill town of Vezelay, a jewel in the Burgundy countryside of France, is the location of this atmospheric mystery. To this idyllic spot come an American girl and her family to claim their legacy of a small cottage left to them by a distant French relative.

Full of high hopes for a memorable summer, the Nelson's instead encounter one rude surprise after another, not least of which is the total disrepair of the stone house. Jan, her brother, and parents immediately must plunge into back-breaking work to make the place livable, but frightening break-ins and the intense scrutiny of the villagers continually disturb them. Gradually they learn that a murder was committed in the attic years ago by someone apparently looking for something of great value that has never been found. Reluctantly Jan decides that for their peace of mind she needs to solve this past crime.
