In 1804, lured by the promise of a Spanish land grand in Texas made by Jules and Jacques LeFleur, Aaron Brewster uprooted his family and that of his younger brother Adam from their Virginia plantation. During the trek southward, Adam's family fell behind, remaining in Mississippi Territory, while Aaron forged ahead to join the LeFleurs in trading stolen goods across the border in Mexico. Thus began the saga of the two branches of the Brewster family, and their involvement with the flamboyant LeFleur clan, a relationship that was to extend through succeeding generations, across countless miles, for almost two centuries. Theirs is a chronicle of conflict and conquest that parallels that of the nation whose vastness they sought to tame.
