Jules remembered the story his father had told about the demon that lived in a well that had granted him a wish as if it were yesterday. His dad had said it was an unholy place and making a wish at the well was like selling your soul to the devil. He'd promised his dad he would never go here, but here he was with nowhere else to turn.
He owed a loan shark more money than he could get his hands on. If he couldn't pay this week, the mobsters would break his legs as a start, then his son's, and go from there.
Jules had never believed in God, the devil, ghosts, demons, or anything he couldn't see. Possibly, his father was delusional when he'd told about the thing in the well granting a wish. This was the final straw, his only chance to save his son and himself. He dropped a rock into the mouth of the abyss and listened.
