Left for dead when the wagon master and his band of owlhoots massacre a wagon train, Matt Fields awakens to find his partner, Cotton Wills, murdered. He discovers a young woman and two boys who also survived. They take refuge in the woods as a snowstorm blows in. The killers stole eight thousand dollars from the train, two thousand of which was start-up money for Matt and Cotton's ranch in Central Texas. The killers return to look for survivors, but Matt and the youngsters evade them. Then Matt turns hunter, and for the next three months, with the help of a Hasinai Caddo he had nursed back to health, Matt methodically tracks down the killers and retrieves the gold.
