Although Nathan changes his mind about Minan, she refuses to listen, sending him on a path back to Earth, where Kendra's sister, Kayla, seduces him. As Nathan continues to face life-threatening conflicts, he discovers a hidden ability. Nerassa brings Brulan (a healer from Laterus V) to Meridian's Capitol, hoping he can return to Mar Nova and send help. After Brulan heals Besper (Meridian's archon), she imprisons him until he agrees to give her children, who will have his abilities. Brulan refuses until learning that Besper captured Nerassa and has beaten her near death. If Brulan cannot find a way to escape, he and Nerassa will die at Besper's hand. Areus sends Ryan (a Saiph trainee) to Coyopia with Owen (a Saiph), where he meets a strange species called the Hyons, a mixture of lion and human. Owen leaves to speak with the Alpha and instructs Ryan to stay in his room after getting something to eat at a nearby tavern, where he meets Soara, a female Hyon, who tries to kill him. Areus sends Cole to NYC to stop a Skean who is killing civilians. After Cole confronts the Skean, he nearly dies and wakes to find Ashley, his girlfriend from his youth. She does not recognize him and tries to prove he is the killer, forcing Cole to reveal his identity, but when Cole faces the Skean again, it could cost him his life.
