Beneath the ocean's churning waves, a war wages on while we go about our daily lives. Selkies, the seals of legends that could shed their skins to take human form, merfolk, half human and half fish, and sirens, the bane of sailors for centuries, all fight for dominance in the open waters without humans knowing of their true existence. Charlotte moves to the quiet, seaswept town of Roncala in hopes to live out a safe life away from London. There wasn't much left there for her anymore after the accident, and the quiet life in Roncala would allow her to just heal. The quiet peace disappears when she rescues the woman in the weeds and brings a millenia long war to the surface, and Charlotte finds that these creatures--thought to exist only in storybooks--are very much part of her reality.
